Song 13

Hey since it's halloween I wanted to stick with the theme. This song is called The Undead.

The Undead

I shouldn’t have went to the other side
I should have been in my right mind
O O O YA YA YA
Cutting the heads off of the undead
You’re making the same mistakes again
You’ve got to fight you’re way out of this hell
But I wish you well
O O O YA YA YA

The devil the devil can tell
The devil knows the devil knows
The devil can tell the devil can tell

Song 12

Haha just came across this picture and thought it was funny. Song 12 is one called Shake It Off I hope you like it.

Shake It Off

Been working on it
Getting visions of my past again
Prepare for the winter that’s coming
Try to take my time
Try to take my time with the breaths I draw
Swooping in like a jackdaw

Every now and then, then and now, now and then the past come creeping in
I do my best to just shake it off
Bird goes with the wind, comes sweepin in, it’s gone again,  time moves with the spin
When I’m lonely I just shake it off

Whatever moves
Whatever moves you I’m sure moves me too
Come on let’s steal away this afternoon
To the Chesapeake
Let’s catch the lighthouse lead the ships to shore
I long for this you long for more

Every now and then, then and now, now and then away I feel like runnin’
I do my best to just shake it off
Boat swaying with the tide, it’s a wild ride, you hope that aching will subside
When I’m lonely I just shake it off

Try to call you an old friend
She says don’t call her again
Guess it all sound just about right
Just trying to make amends
She says the past is gone and
You’re lucky to make it out alive

Song 11

Well I'm on song 11, just about half way done with all my songs....hahaha. This song is called Lessons From The Past......It tells a story I bet you can figure it out.

Lessons From The Past

there’s a rumor going ‘round
I heard that you’re lost
Was it the boy that you found?
Or the coin that you tossed
Into that wishing well
Well what have you found?
Where’d your dreams float off to now?

Did you listen to that song?
Did you even get the point?
Did you hear that line?
The one I said gets me every time
I know you lost yourself
Lost some things along the way
I’m here to help you give them hell
I hope you stay

When the lessons from the past
Knock on the door of today
The avenue should be clear
That’s something
I thought I heard the people say

There’s a rumor going round
I heard you’ve gone out your mind
Was it the ultrasound?
Or the one you said kind
Of brings you down
The man you left behind
I guess you accidentally drank
Too much that night

Did you listen to that song?
Did you even get the point?
Did you catch that line?
The one I said gets me every time
I know you lost yourself
Lost some things along the way
I’m here to help you give them hell
I hope you stay

Song 10

Well it's about that time of day again. This next song is called Come Down Song, I hope you folks enjoy it. I'm not sure how many people are listening but I'm having a good time doing this so far.

Come Down Song

All she says
Is I hope it goes away
Better speak up now boy
You gonna let it get away
She’s all a wreck
All a wreck these days
You say you feel alright
You can’t complain

You don’t know
Notice when she’s gone
You don’t know
Notice when she’s around
You might well
Welcome doubt

Welcome in doubt
Well come down
Welcome in doubt
Well I’m just coming down

She says she wants to settle down
You took me far away from my home town
Welcome in doubt
Well come down
Welcome in doubt

She says I don’t know how you got me so high
You must of played a trick on my lonely mind
Welcome in doubt
Well come down
Welcome in doubt

Song 9

So I just finished writing this song and recorded it. Today was the day after a pretty decent snowfall. There's something  about the how serene a snowfall can be that inspires.

Line For Spring, Verse For Fall

Oh brought you a verse for fall
Remember singing sha sha?
Now come with me
Oh brought you a lullaby
The newborn baby cries
Time for sleep

Oh I brought you a line for spring
A gift suitable for a queen, you know what I mean
You know I save the best for last
Never let a good moment pass me by

There’s blood in the snow
Now everybody knows
You’re taking off your clothes
And putting on a show
Your heart it skips
You taste the drip
You lick your lips
And start to slip away again

Oh it’s not such a terrible thing
Remember singing in the factories
With cotton seeds?
Oh you swore you’d never die
Ask me to stay that same size
Now it’s time for sleep

Oh I brought you a line for spring
A gift suitable for a queen, you know what I mean
You know I save the best for last
Never let a good moment pass me by

There’s blood in the snow
Now everybody knows
You’re taking off your clothes
And putting on a show
Your heart it skips
You taste the drip
You lick your lips
And start to slip away again

Song 8

Well I almost forgot I had to write a song and record it today. ha ha Anyway, this song is called Blame it All On Me.

Blame it All On Me

It might have been the wine it might have been the time
It might have been the moonshine
It might have been the water
It might have been her blue eyes
You can blame it all on me

Will you brave the roads in the winter snow?
Find her there on her own
You say you can’t call this place home
Come on don’t act like you didn’t know
This would be the way it goes

It might have been the wine it might have been the time
It might have been the moonshine
It might have been the water
It might have been her blue eyes
You can blame it all on me

Will you sing your songs to the drunken kind?
Will she be on your mind?
You say the road is home and you don’t mind.
Come on don’t act like you didn’t know
This would be the way it goes

It might have been the wine it might have been the time
It might have been the moonshine
It might have been the water
It might have been her blue eyes
You can blame it all on me

Song 7

Being that it is so close to halloween I thought I'd try out a creepy song. Here it is I hope you enjoy it.

Halloween Song
The dead are walking
The dead are talking
A whisper in your ear
“The dead are near”
The devil waits
For you to make mistakes
A whisper in your ear
“The devil is near”

Can you hear it now?
Can you feel it now?
They’re sinkin their teeth in
They’re sinkin their teeth in
You gonna end up just like them
You gonna end up just like them

Song 6

Today was an eventful day as I ran a bunch of errands. Just in time to come home and write a song about my biological father. I am pretty proud of this song and it might be my favorite one so far. Well, every new song I write is my favorite one for the time being. Guess that means I'll have 365 new favorite songs this time next year!!!

Comfort of A Lie

There’s a stream that I grew up with
I remember walking there as a kid
Just to get away again and again
That’s no way to live

My father stayed at the base of the hill
With his glass never kept unfilled
You could call it living
I call it a sure way to kill

There’s a place my pop used to run
Reloadin bullet’s polishin his guns
I remember lookin up when I was young
I can still smell the bourbon on his toungue

My father stayed within the comfort of a lie
With his glass filled way up high
You could call it living
I call it a sure way to die

(Lie all day all day long lie all day long)
Where did you go? How I don’t know?
Why did you leave? When will I see?
What did you take? With you to the gate

Song 5

I was on my way to work this morning listening to a band called album leaf. This song was playing and I found myself singing the line "What Side of the Gun Are you on?" When I got home I decided to try and write a song along with this instrumental track of Album Leaf's. Anyway, here it is I hope you enjoy it.

What Side of the Gun

What side of the gun are you on?
What side of the gun are you on?
Ya what side?
Is it right or wrong?

I thought about making love
without the barrel of a gun
pressing down on me
you search you long for release

Song 4

I work in an hour. Not looking forward to it. At least I finished this song and got it out of the way that way i'm not doing any late night writing tonight. I titled this song Cover of Maps. I hope you folks enjoy it.

Cover Of Maps

If I close my eyes I’m gonna wonder
I’m gonna wonder where it is that you been
Found beneath these skies under the cover
Under the cover of torn up maps and heroin

Under blissful tones
Inside a humble home
Where the garden grows
And the noble beast moans

Will I find you at all
You get up just to fall
Afraid you’ll miss last call
It’s just a long way, it’s just a long way
When you can’t walk on the pub crawl

If I close my eyes I’m gonna wonder
I’m gonna wonder where it is that you flee
Found beneath the skies under the color
Under the color of mystic hues from LSD

Under blissful tones
Inside a humble home
Where the garden grows
And the noble beast moans

Will I find you at all
You get up just to fall
Afraid you’ll miss last call
It’s just a long way, It’s just a long way
When you can’t walk on the pub crawl.

Song 3

Today I left for work at nine this morning and left work nine this evening. So, needless to say I didn't have much time to write a song. Fortunately, today was one of my lucky days where a song came with not much effort. This song I titled Season of Gamblin' it's a love song written for my wife. I hope you enjoy it.

Season of Gamblin'

Even in the winter’s freezing cold
I’m kept warm by the arms that hold
I’ve taken some trips to the other side
Been a stranger on strange tides
Been in love been in lust
Not a gambling man but I’d bet on us

Even in the summer girls are showin skin
I’m taken back by the love I’m in
I’ve taken some trips to foreign land
Had desperate times been a desperate man
Been adored been unpure
Not a gambling man but this one’s for sure

I was reckless I was rambling
I was talkin to myself again
Time was not on my side
I was playin never winning
Then one day you walked in
Haven’t lost since then

Even in the fall leaves blowin round
I stay perfectly still with the love I’ve found
I’ve taken some trips got a different view
Been alone in a crowded room
Been obsessed been cherished
Not a gambling man but I’m all in

Song 2

Well here is the second song of 365. I titled it Memory of Loss. Took me a long time to even come up with any words today. That's not a good sign.....only on song two and already losing steam. Hopefully tomorrow a song will come a little easier. This song is a slow banjo tune. I hope you all enjoy it.

Memory of Loss

Do you think it real?
It aches then it heals
Do you think it strange?
Summer snow and winter rain
I do believe
You grieve and hope it leaves

It’s a train flipped off the tracks
It’s a love you ain’t getting back
It’s a plane that’s bound to crash
The one thing you wish you had

Do you think it clear?
Happiness creating tears
You find it divine?
Jesus fish a hanging Christ,
Or a dharma wheel
Sit crossed legged or do you kneel?

It’s a wheel that will not roll
It’s a tide you can’t control
It’s a lord that will save your soul
And the devil that you know

A choice to compromise and take it slow
Enlightened to realize what I know I do not know
Living out these lies all covered up in snow
The trouble with these highs they always turn to lows
With my hands on your thighs your eyes begin to close
Can I stay for the night? I don’t want to go.

It’s a memory of loss
What you need but do not want
A heart not pumping blood
A liar that you trust

Song 1

Well everyone I finished writing and recording my first song of 365. I didn't really feel inspired to play guitar or write a song today. Honestly, I just wanted to lay around and watch Lost on Hulu plus. The problem was I told myself I would start this project today, so that's what I did. As I promised here are the lyrics:

Sweetness of Days

For a minute we all felt lost
We all felt gone
With crossed fingers the truth would come
Woe I couldn’t find
Oh me oh my peaceful side

Don’t want to be
Can’t stop pacing now
Tell me why me?
Heart keeps beating loud
Don’t want to be
Keep on asking how?
Tell me why me?
Soul is writhing now
Don’t want to be
Anywhere but now
Tell me why me?
Mind is laced with doubt

For a minute I wished you the best
Then I was glad you were gone
With crossed fingers some peace would come
Woe I couldn’t find
Oh me oh my to reprieve is divine

Don’t want to be
Can’t stop pacing now
Tell me why me?
Heart keeps beating loud
Don’t want to be
Keep on asking how?
Tell me why me?
Soul is writhing now
Don’t want to be
Anywhere but now
Tell me why me?
Mind is laced with doubt

What if I rearrange change the sound of my name?
Pain is coming without warning these days
What if I stay the same? Blame can only be placed
On myself not anyone else

For a minute I closed my eyes
I felt peace
I felt calm, truly at ease
Oh I could finally taste
Oh me oh my the sweetness of days

Tomorrow I Start my Writing Adventure

Well everyone I have decided to attempt writing a song a day for 365 days. I have created this blog to journal my progress. Here I will be posting either audio or video links to the songs as I write them. Along with this I will also post the lyrics to each song. I will try to explain my inspiration for the songs I write. Over the years I have found that inspiration can come in many ways be it the weather, music I'm listening to, food I'm eating, a disagreement with a friend.........on and on. Well stay tuned because tomorrow I will write a song.........post a link to that song and this music making journey will begin.
